Products and activities within the context of Smart Home and Connected Life

While other companies are talking about SmartHome, Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data, millions of our connected products are already placed at our customers’ homes. Today, the Kobold robot vacuum cleaner is sent through the apartment via the VR200 app, and the favorite recipes are loaded onto the Thermomix per WIFI to be available on the smart kitchen helper’s display.

Some of our present products already feature a digital interface, and in the future, all of our products will. It is not a question of digitization for digitization’s sake, however the main question here is: what does a product need to have in order to be a market success, convince customers to buy, and make our life better?

On the production front, too, the Vorwerk Group is looking into the possibilities of digitization and aspects of Industry 4.0. A new Research & Development center is currently being built in Wuppertal, and new staff is recruited, mainly to work in software development and battery technology to address the challenges of robotics and digitization.

In cooperation with Wuppertal University, we are also establishing the unique Vorwerk Foundation Professorship. Within this framework, the new Chair "Technology and Management of Digital Transformation" within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering will be entirely devoted to the teaching, research and knowledge transfer of digital transformation.
